Nauru in video

I’ve posted a bit recently on the Nauruan parliamentary wranglings, but I thought that this post should feature something thate moves away (for now) from the content of those posts. I’ve found some home movies or videos taken on Nauru that others have posted on YouTube, so have posted a small collation of them here.
The first is a parts 1 and 2 of a video entitled ”La Patate du Pacifique”. My French isn’t much good, but I think the title is a reference to the spud-like shape of Nauru. There’s plenty of vision of the pinnacles and the phosphate diggings in action.
Here’s another home movie, apparently taken in 1973, of scenes around the island. It features scenes of kids playing around the coastline, but starts with an old Air Nauru F28 taking off from the island’s runway, and even features an old Mini Moke if you watch carefully. Some of it looks quite ideallic.
And here’s another one I liked, although it has the embed feature turned off, so you’ll have to follow the link to its YouTube page. It’s a movie of the Queen’s visit to Nauru in 1981. I especially like the footage of Her Majesty’s limousine driving along through the coral pinnacles. It seems a little incongruous!
